Running With Neodymium Magnets
One version of 'obvious applications' is the fixation of something to something else. Aside from providing nearly endless amusement applications, this is a great thing for organization. These magnets have the advantage of being incredibly strong and able to attach through almost any material. They can hold a stuffed toy to the dashboard of your car, and they can just as easily hold a kitchen appliance to the underside of a cabinet.
If there is no need to attach kitchen appliances to cabinets, neodymium rare earth magnets would be great in the garage. Organize tools, hardware, even things like a bicycle. When all that is needed is two magnets and some glue, it really could not be easier to set everything up just right.
Along with the household applications, magnets have long been used in healing. It is believed by some that pain is caused by an imbalance of the body's natural electromagnetic field. To this end, some licensed practitioners use magnets to restore balance and lessen, or even entirely get rid of, pain. During a magnetic therapy session, the customer lies on a massage table or something similar while the practitioner places magnets of varying sizes and strengths on pressure points. The magnets can be moved slowly over the body also, depending upon the wishes of the one needing healing. In order to promote peace and comfort, there can be music and light massage along with the magnet therapy.
Though these magnets can be a great asset to anything from commercial applications to alternative medicine, there are dangers associated with them. Due to their extraordinary strength, even the smallest magnet can be dangerous to people. If a child or even an adult swallowed two, it could result in a pinched bowel, which is horribly painful at the least and fatal at the most. Larger pieces are strong enough to break bone if an unfortunate person were to be standing between the magnet and the metal it was attracted to. All sizes can cause injury due to shrapnel caused when two of them meet at high velocity. The magnets are made from delicate materials, so if they slam into each other it can create shards that can be harmful.
Neodymium rare earth magnets are an invaluable asset to the industrial community with their applications in things like power tools and computer hard drives. They are also immensely useful to the average Joe as organizational tools and alternative therapy aids. Despite the dangers, they can be a wonderful thing to have around the house.
